Confronting a Ganglioglioma: Case Report
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction: Gangliogliomas are rare neuroepithelial tumours that account for only 0.4% of the CNS tumours hence no prospective studies are done regarding the management. This case report describes management of ganglioglioma and use of radiotherapy in the adjuvant setting. Case Description: An eight year old girl presented with complaints of seizures and after evaluation underwent craniotomy and decompression. Subsequently was considered for adjuvant radiotherapy as post-op histopathology revealed Anaplastic ganglioglioma grade 3. Post radiotherapy MRI whole brain scan at 9 months showed features of a porencephalic cyst in the treated area with enhancing wall and no significant solid component. A follow up MRI screening scan two years later showed mild decrease in the enhancement of the cyst wall and a neurosurgical opinion was taken where in the patient was advised to be on follow up. Conclusion: Anaplastic gangliogliomas are aggressive tumours which despite being dealt with surgery and radiotherapy have a propensity to recur thereby reiterating the fact of needing an insistent adjuvant therapy which has to be determined in future studies as the definitive treatment options for this tumour have not been elaborated as the tumour is very rare.

Ganglioglioma originating in the cerebellum with a large cyst--a case report and review of the literature.
Here we report a rare case of cerebellar ganglioglioma accompanied by a large cyst, and present a review of the reported 28 cases with cerebellar ganglioglioma. An otherwise healthy 46-year-old woman complained of gradual headache and truncal ataxia. MRI revealed a huge cystic lesion with a mural nodule in the left cerebellar hemisphere. The tumor was resected totally. Histologically, it was co...

We report a case of anaplastic ganglioglioma. A 45-yr-old woman was admitted with a 5-month history of headache and dizziness, both of which progressed slowly. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging revealed a strong enhancing mass in the left frontal lobe extending to the cingulate gyrus. Adjuvant radiation therapy and chemotherapy were given after gross total resection of the tumor. Histolog...

The cerebellar location of ganglioglioma (GG) is exceptional. We report one case of a 27-year-old man who underwent an intracranial hypertension syndrome and a static cerebellar syndrome. Brain magnetic resonance images revealed a cyst image in the vermis. Histological study after surgical removal, revealed a ganglioglioma tumor. Through this case and literature review, the authors discuss some...

Gangliogliomas usually present as benign tumors corresponding to World Health Organization (WHO) Grade I. Very rarely, gangliogliomas show histological features of malignancy and are then classified as anaplastic gangliogliomas of WHO Grade III or IV. In most cases, anaplastic gangliogliomas developed after radiation therapy or progression from a pre-existing low-grade ganglioglioma. Here, we r...

We describe a case of medulloblastoma maturating into ganglioglioma during therapy. A 10-month-old boy was diagnosed with a desmoplastic medulloblastoma and was treated with gross total resection followed by induction chemotherapy. A recurrence in the tumor bed during therapy was managed with focal radiation therapy and consolidation chemotherapy. After further progression, the recurrent tumor ...
